Sheffield Childrens Hospital

  • Major new development construction
  • Major plant, manifolds and infrastructure upgrade, Medical oxygen, air and vacuum systems

This project was developed in two distinctive parts – the enabling section and the main extension construction phase.

The enabling work section consisted of the design and installation of new source equipment including:

  • a relocated VIE plant,
  • medical air plant,
  • medical vacuum plant,
  • emergency manifold arrangements complete with plant alarm panels.

It involved a major shut down of existing equipment alongside rerouting of pipework sections, whilst maintaining the services to hospital departments with temporary facilities.

The new 3 floor extension consisted of 11 wards and 3 specialist departments supplied with Oxygen, Medical Air 4 and Vacuum services fully meeting the HTM 02-01 standards.

Each ward / department had the full range of NIST line valves, Area Valve & Service Units, terminal units fitted and area alarm systems.

Pipework services were installed linking all areas, including a major oxygen main diversion section to the new VIE plant.

Fully tested and commissioned to the client’s representative’s approval.

Staff training was completed.
